Curwen Print Study Centre Archive Project awarded grant

Jerwood Foundation has awarded a grant of £10,000 to the Curwen Print Study Centre to support the completion of their archive project through the creation of an online platform and digitalisation of the archive to enable it to be shared with audiences far and wide. The Curwen archive is a rare collection of artists’ proofs, correspondence and studio notebooks which document the artists’ process in lithography in 20^th century Britain.

 

Artists include Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Elisabeth Frink, John Piper, Ceri Richards, Paula Rego, Eduardo Paolozzi, Edward Bawden and Ana Maria Pacheco. The collection consists of over 750 lithographs, most of which are proofs, giving an insight into the development of the work and the relationship between artist and master printer. The collection relates to a period of innovation at the Curwen Studio, from 1958 - 2013, under the guidance of founder and master printmaker, Stanley Jones MBE. Situated within a working educational print studio, the archive is an invaluable resource for artists and researchers, as well as those interested in learning about printmaking.  

 

Through this project the archive will be available to be viewed by the public through changing displays, exhibitions and for the first time, searchable and accessible online through the completion of the website to share this unique archive digitally with audience far and wide.
