Jerwood Foundation has awarded a grant of £20,000 to MK Gallery to enable the publication of the catalogue, which will accompany the largest solo exhibition to date, of Vanessa Bell (1879-1961). The exhibition catalogue aims to widen the understanding of Bell’s work and give a more contemporary perspective with newly commissioned essays by, Dr Rebecca Birrell, Research Affiliate for The Fitzwilliam Museum, and contributions from Judy Chicago, the Singh Twins, Paulina Olowska and Hayley Tompkins.
Vanessa Bell: A World of Form and Colour at MK Gallery will be open from 19 October 2024 until 23 February 2025 and will provide the most comprehensive survey of the work of Vanessa Bell spanning the artist’s illustrious career. The exhibition will also feature work on loan from Jerwood Collection, alongside works from The Courtauld, National Portrait Gallery and Tate.
Lara Wardle, Executive Director and Trustee, Jerwood Foundation said:
I am delighted that Jerwood Foundation is supporting this forthcoming major Vanessa Bell exhibition at MK Gallery, not only through funding the accompanying catalogue, which will widen the understanding of Vanessa Bell’s work, but also through the loan of one of our recent Jerwood Collection acquisitions, Still Life, Asolo, Italy, painted in 1955.
Anthony Spira, Director, Milton Keynes Gallery said:
We are extremely grateful to Jerwood Foundation for supporting the largest ever exhibition of work by Vanessa Bell. This ambitious project, which opens on 19 October at MK Gallery, would not have been possible without Jerwood's generosity.
