Eva Rothschild screenprint acquired for Jerwood Collection

Garland I  by Eva Rothschild RA, recently acquired for Jerwood Collection, demonstrates the artist's interest in mazes, fluted surfaces and semi-classical ruins.  Drawing and printmaking have always been important facets of Eva Rothschild’s work alongside her sculpture, presenting her with an opportunity to experiment with colour, gradation and shape. Using a combination of hand-printed colour fades which underpin each of the images, she has brought her distinctive vocabulary of sculptural elements to this new body of work, depicting segmented forms that seem to extend beyond the two-dimensional surface.

Eva Rothschild was born in Dublin in 1971 and currently lives and works in London. One of the leading artists of her generation, her work demonstrates a great awareness of the modernist tradition while maintaining its own distinctive sculptural language. Her works also engage with signifiers and objects from her surrounding urban environment, and the eternal forms of geometry and classicism. Her works are held by major public collections including MoMA, New York, Arts Council of England, Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, Tate, and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, and in 2019, she represented Ireland at the 58th Venice Biennale.
