LPO Young Composers Programme 2026/27

Jerwood Foundation awarded a £60,000 grant to the London Philharmonic Orchestra's Young Composers programme in 2024, providing support over three years. Now entering its third year, the Jerwood-supported programme continues to provide talented early-career composers with opportunities to develop their practice and gain first-hand experience of writing for professional musicians.

Mentored by the LPO’s Composer-in-Residence, Sir George Benjamin, participants spend a season creating a new work for chamber orchestra and solo voice. Through seminars, workshops, rehearsals and wider industry opportunities, they refine their ideas with LPO players and Future Firsts before their works are presented at the LPO’s Debut Sounds concert at the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall on 10 June 2027.

The five Young Composers who are participating in the 2026/2027 programme are Joseph Graydon, Michael Hughes, Elif Karlidag, Ashkan Layegh and Asha Parkinson.

The 2026/27 season marks the 20th year of this industry-leading programme which was established in 2006.
