Dora Carrington work from Jerwood Collection on loan to The Salisbury Museum

Bloomsbury in Wiltshire, presented at The Salisbury Museum from 23 May – 27 September 2026, explores the relationship between the Bloomsbury Group, a circle of influential English writers, artists and intellectuals, and the county of Wiltshire. On loan from Jerwood Collection is Self-Portrait by Dora Carrington (1893-1932), presented within the exhibition’s wider exploration of life at Ham Spray House, home to Carrington, Lytton Strachey, and Ralph Partridge and Frances Partridge between 1924 and 1960.

The exhibition brings together artworks from both public and private collections, including paintings and sculptures created by, or depicting, residents of Ham Spray House, alongside works by other prominent Bloomsbury figures such as Duncan Grant, Vanessa Bell, Stephen Tomlin, Angelica Garnett and Roger Fry.

Visitors will also be able to view rare films capturing moments from life at Ham Spray House. Complementing the artworks is a display of period ephemera, photo albums and ceramics from the Omega Workshops, designed by members of the Bloomsbury Group.
