Jerwood Collection loans two significant works to MK Gallery

Jerwood Collection is pleased to loan two significant works to Euan Uglow: An Arc from the Eye, a major solo exhibition of the work of British painter Euan Uglow (1932–2000), opening at MK Gallery, Milton Keynes, and running from 14 February to 31 May 2026. The exhibition marks the first UK public survey of Uglow’s work in over twenty years, bringing together over 70 paintings and drawings, alongside examples of work by artists who shaped his practice.

Uglow was shortlisted for the inaugural Jerwood Painting Prize in 1994 and is celebrated for his rigorous observation and painstaking technique, often taking months or years to resolve a single work. His paintings are distinguished by their precise structure, subtle colour, and sustained engagement with visual reality. An Arc from the Eye presents a broad overview of his career, including early works, large-scale compositions, and key paintings that demonstrate his meticulous approach to measurement and form.

Jerwood Foundation has awarded MK Gallery a grant to support the research and publication of a fully illustrated catalogue accompanying the exhibition. The publication will feature newly commissioned essays by curator Catherine Lampert and Dr Kate Aspinall, alongside contributions from artists and writers including John Stezaker, Ellen Altfest and Robert Dukes. This publication will deepen understanding of Uglow’s work and extend appreciation to audiences beyond the gallery space.

Jerwood Collection is loaning The Blue Towel (1982–83) and Study for Blue Towel (1982) to the exhibition. These works complement other important loans drawn from public and private collections, offering visitors an exceptional opportunity to engage with the depth and precision of Uglow’s practice.

Euan Uglow: An Arc from the Eye celebrates an artist whose devotion to exacting observation and formal inquiry helped shape post-war British painting.
