In a new partnership announced on 26 January 2026 Jerwood Foundation has awarded Rambert a grant of £27,950 to support the first year of a new commissioning programme launching in Rambert’s centenary year.
During 2026 one choreographer and one paid choreographic assistant at a pivotal career moment will be supported to create and premiere bold new work with Rambert’s ensemble of 18 dancers, drawing on the company’s artistic leadership, production expertise and touring networks.
The commission will premiere within a Rambert production and tour nationally and internationally, reaching audiences of more than 125,000. By combining creation at scale, formal mentorship and wide audience reach, the programme addresses a critical gap in the dance sector, supporting artists ready to take their next step, whilst ensuring ambitious new work is seen by audiences across the UK.
Lara Wardle, Executive Director and Trustee, Jerwood Foundation said:
This new partnership with Rambert, to support Jerwood New Commission, underlines Jerwood Foundation’s long-held commitment to creative excellence and emerging talent in the UK. Enabling a pathway for choreographers will give them the opportunity to create work which will support Rambert’s dynamic vision for the next century of dance.
Helen Shute, Chief Executive and Executive Producer, Rambert said:
We are very grateful to Jerwood Foundation for supporting Rambert’s adventurous programming at such a significant moment in Rambert’s history. The Jerwood Commission will give choreographers and collaborators the support, scale and visibility they need to take real creative risks, while allowing audiences across the UK to experience bold new work that might otherwise not be possible.
