LPO Young Composers 2025/26

Jerwood Foundation is currently supporting the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s Young Composers programme through its award of a total grant of £60,000 over three years. The Programme aims to support the progression of talented early-career orchestral composers. Mentored by Sir George Benjamin, the LPO’s Composer-in-Residence, the Young Composers spend a season with the LPO, each creating a new work for chamber orchestra.

A work in progress rehearsal held in the Spring, enables composers to experiment with new ideas, talk to players and receive feedback in a constructive and inquisitive environment. This is followed by further workshop-rehearsals leading to the final concert performance that is performed by LPO Foyle Future Firsts, early-career orchestral musicians and LPO players at the Debut Sounds public summer showcase concert at the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. Along the way, Young Composers learn about the orchestral and professional composing industry through a series of tailored sessions.

The five Young Composers who are participating in the 2025/26 programme are Edward Robson, Seyoung Oh, Michael Taplin, Margot Pommellet, and George Stevenson.

The 2025/26 season marks the 19th year of this industry-leading programme which was established in 2006.
