HAPPY! Jerwood Collection at Hatton Gallery

In February 2026, the Hatton Gallery will open HAPPY!, a major exhibition developed in partnership with Jerwood Collection and curated by L-INK, the gallery’s young people’s group. The exhibition explores how artists become artists, reflecting on the different pathways and lived experiences that shape creative practice. Drawing on works selected from the Jerwood Collection, the project celebrates the joy and fluidity of making art, as well as the varied routes through which artists develop their voice.

Over 30 works from Jerwood Collection will be on loan to the exhibition, including pieces by Gillian Ayres, Prunella Clough, Yinka Ilori, Alan Davie, William Scott, and Margaret Mellis. Spanning three gallery spaces, the display will feature artworks curated by L-INK alongside a collaborative schools project. Pupils from three local schools will present new artworks made in response to pieces from the Collection, paying homage to Victor Pasmore’s influential 1957 Art Education Exhibition — a landmark celebration of creativity at every stage of learning.

Through this intergenerational collaboration, HAPPY! brings together artists, curators, and audiences to consider the value of arts education and the shared joy of making. By giving space to both established and emerging voices, the exhibition continues Hatton Gallery’s and Jerwood’s commitment to supporting artistic development and offering new perspectives on the role of art in our lives.
