Jerwood Collection

The current Jerwood Collection exhibition, which is on display in the collection rooms upstairs at Jerwood Galley, Hastings (until 7 January 2018) explores the theme of ‘Decades of Modern British Art'. Works from the 1950s which include pieces by: Edward Burra (1905-1976); Sir Terry Frost RA (1915-2003); Alexander MacKenzie (1923-2002) and Sir Stanley Spencer RA (1891-1959) , are hung in Rooms 6 and 7 and ongoing displays (in Rooms 3,4 and 5) includes pieces from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s.

Children & The Arts, which works to bring arts to disadvantaged children across the UK, is holding its 11th Annual Carol Concert at 7.30pm on Monday 4th December 2017 at Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Square, London, SW1X 9BZ.  The event will include readings by Ben Miller, Adrian Lester, Brian Blessed and the charity's newest Ambassador Felicity Jones with music from Shaun Escoffery, Carly Paoli and Jennifer Pike. Jerwood Gallery

Start Hospices

Jerwood Gallery are delighted to be a Start Hospices Partner working with Chestnut Tree House, Sussex and Children and the Arts. Start Hospice is a UK-wide programme that enables arts venues to partner with local children's hospices and Jerwood Gallery are excited to be working on the Start Hospice Project 2017/18. Jerwood Gallery recently held its first Family Day, read Cicely Taylor's blog 'Creativity for Hospice Families at Jerwood Gallery' here.


Drawing Life

Drawing Life is a project that brings life drawing to those living with dementia. Jerwood Gallery is hosting a Drawing Life event on 12th December as the last event was such as a great success. The classes are open to the public to observe and to view the drawings. People living with dementia and their carers will attend the studio for classes. 

Project Director, Judy Parkinson, has a special interest in art and memory both as an artist and an author. Judy has spent many an hour at life drawing classes and is the author of the best-selling book about mnemonics "I Before E, Except After C, easy ways to remember stuff".
Jerwood Gallery are delighted to welcome back Judy, tutor Robert Sample and model Mike Mitchell.


Visual Story Building Printing Workshop

On Sunday 10th December, Olivia Bishop's printing workshop will see participants using sketching, mono-printing and a lot of imagination during a visual story building workshop for 11-16 year olds. The workshop which is for all abilities costs £5 and starts at 1pm.

Lilli Geissendorfer Announced as New Director of Jerwood Charitable Foundation

We are delighted to welcome Lilli Geissendorfer as the new Director of Jerwood Charitable Foundation who will take up the post from 22 January 2018.

Lilli has a background as a theatre producer with an interest in creating definitive new work with outstanding artists. Previous roles include Producer at Almeida Theatre, delivering Rupert Goold’s ambitious productions, and Relationship Manager for Theatre at Arts Council England where she managed an NPO portfolio and developed environmental sustainability policies. Lilli co-produced the first HighTide Festival in 2007, ran the film and theatre producing company Strawberry Vale Productions and co-founded Londoners on Bikes, a pop-up cycle safety campaign for the London 2012 Mayoral election. She is a Salzburg Forum Cultural Leadership Fellow, a Clore Emerging Leader and studied social and political sciences at Goldsmiths and Cambridge University. Jerwood Charitable Foundation’s experienced and specialist team members will continue to lead on the development of its strategic initiatives alongside the new Director, including: Sarah Williams, Head of Programme for Jerwood Visual Arts; Joy Francis, Project Manager for the Jerwood Compton Poetry Fellowships; and Kate Danielson, Programme Director for the Weston Jerwood Creative Bursaries. Until she joins the team in January the organisation is led by Deputy Director Jon Opie, with the support of the Jerwood Charitable Foundation Board of Trustees

Two Trustees have also been recently appointed to the Board, BBC filmmaker Vanessa Engle and journalist and editor Catrin Griffiths.
