Black Waters: Inference To The Veil is the culmination of the inaugural Jerwood Curatorial Fellowship at The Glasgow School of Art. Developed by Black Waters — a collaborative curatorial research project led by Zoë Zo, Zoë Tumika, Zoë Guthrie and Żżo / Zoë Charlery — the exhibition explores ‘inference’ as both a curatorial method and a critical disruption.

Grounded in Black feminist methodologies and scholarship, the exhibition considers abstraction, opacity and concealment as sites of both historical erasure and creative resistance. The veil operates here as a metaphor for obscured histories and institutional silences, while also signifying material memory and inheritance.
